US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Mark Esper has been elected Secretary of Defence in office after Patrick Chanan's departure from his post.
Esper visited Kosovo two weeks ago, and for that he had announced US Ambassador to Pristina Philip Costet.
On 3 June, Costett had written that with Esper in Kosovo, he has talked about the support the US Army has towards the Ministry of Defence and Security Forces.
“pleased to have Army Secretary Mark Esper visiting Kosovo. We discussed the American Army's commitment to security and stability in Kosovo through the support of the Ministry of Defence and KSF and also by continuing to support KFOR's activities for peace”, Costnett wrote in Titter.
The U.S. has not named Secretary of Defense since James Mattis left.
Mattis, according to Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, was the key man who supported the transformation of KSF into the military through changing laws, which would fall without the support of Serbian representatives. Until Mattis ' approval, the US opposed forming the army without the support of the Republika Srpska List.
The task so far was Patrick Shahan, who withdrew from the confirmation process for the Secretary of Defence's post, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Trump said Army Secretary Mark Esper will replace Mr. Shanahan as Secretary of Defence on duty.
