American President Donald Trump had threatened Mexico with a 5 percent tax on all products imported from this country if the neighboring country does not accept measures to prevent immigrants from bordering the United States and Mexico. These taxes were scheduled to go into effect from Monday, but President Trump announced via the social network, Twitter, that both governments have reached agreement and that taxes have been cancelled for an indefinite period.
“Thank you for supporting all Mexicans, enforcement of the tax on Mexican products exported to the United States has been avoided”, the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, wrote on Twitter.
Through a joint statement, the two countries said that Mexico has agreed to immediately expand the programme for sending migrants seeking asylum from the United States to Mexico, where they will stay until the court examines their cases.
This statement reportedly has also hired Mexico to boost forces and security measures for preventing migrants aiming to go to the United States, including the engagement of military troops at its southern borders and fighting groups that do human trafficking, writes the Guardian”.
