“Migrants are dying in Bosnia”, said the humanitarian organisation, which recalled how some of them had changed their lives as they sought refuge. The Miral camp where the fire fell houses 500 immigrants.
The injured were taken to the hospital in the great Kladus, but the episode, which unfortunately did not end in tragedy, helped to draw attention to the plight of these foreigners who have been trapped there.
A few weeks ago, says Inera Kulenovic of the red cross, three immigrants sleeping in an abandoned building were burned alive by fire sent by candles used for lighting. Soon thereafter, another fell from the high floors of the building where he stood, and only last week did a man set himself on fire from depression.
The psychological state of these people is too heavy, she says. About 25,000 people from Asia and North Africa have entered Bosnia from Serbia and Montenegro last year.
Only about 3,500 of them have been accommodated at temporary centres, while the rest remain on the streets.
