So declared US Ambassador Philip S. Costett, prior to the screening of documentary film “Procurators”, on the occasion of the International Day for Elimination of Sex Violence in Conflict.
I don't mean to call these survivors victims victims because they're not defined as victims. They're the bravest people I know. They do not require much security, health care, and little pension. First, I believe it's the stigma associated with survivors of sexual violence can only be removed with community assistance. At the central level, I am pleased to declare that Kosovo has begun to progress to create a safe environment for survivors to report their case and to offer necessary services and resources when reporting”, Costnett has said.
He has added that Kosovo is setting the example for this, but political support is needed to continue the road, increasing budget for survivors.
The sad truth is that after 20 years, some cases cannot be followed. In some cases co-operation with neighbouring countries is needed, and that is why Kosovo and Serbia should accelerate the process for normalising relations”, he said.
