Ilir Meta abolishs decree, elections in Albania on June 30th

Albania's president's full statement:

1. With deep concern for the critical situation created in the country as a result of the non-reflection of either side;
2. Given the necessity of urgent concessions to the situation and the risk of unpredictable escalation of conflict in the country;
3. Taking on the high constitutional and institutional responsibility, and convinced that protection of constitutional principles is more important than any legal deadline, as head of state and holding to the oath to serve preservation at any cost of stability, social peace and national unity;
4. With full awareness that current conditions do not enable the development of real, democratic, representative and inclusive elections. Free and fair elections are the main criteria of Copenhagen, and in current conditions, due to the lack of responsibility of both sides, we are heading towards a party vote. In this way, any possibility of opening membership negotiations with the European Union is undermined by image as NATO member and O chairmanship is violated. SBE for 2020;
5. By inviting all responsible domestic and international actors to join constructive contributions to the urgent restoration of irreplaceable political dialogue and finding a quick solution and serving Albania's European future;

I have decided to abolish the decree No.10928, the date 05.11,2018 for holding elections for local government bodies on June 30, 2019.

In the first communication Monday, June 10th, morning, the Republika President's institution will publicly make known all depleting constitutional, legal and logical arguments that led to the decision being made.

I call on opposition leaders for today's protest to be held completely peaceful, away from any act of violence.

At the same time, it draws attention to all parties to avoid any provocation that may appear during the protest.
