EU sharply criticised for discrimination making Kosovo visa

Bloomberg has dedicated an article to the political situation in the Balkans, and in particular to countries like Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Special emphasis is on visa liberalisation and the fact that the European Union has set numerous criteria for Kosovo to meet the criteria, and after their fulfillment [...]
What is highlighted most are reports between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as talks in Brussels, the meeting of Kosovo and Serbian politicians in Germany, where German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were welcomed. Bloomberg reports how the first meeting to be held in Paris has been postponed. On the other hand, Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieeva has reportedly called on EU officials to fulfil their promises “in exchange for reforms required by Balkan countries. “I promised Kosovo that they would receive visa liberalisation if we fulfil the conditions they did, and a year later there is still no liberalisation”, Zaharieva added during a conference held in the Bulgarian town of Plovdiq during Wednesday.
“When the EU does not fulfil its promises, it will lose confidence” of those countries”, the Bulgarian minister added. As Bloomberg reports, without a commitment and supervision of the war-torn region, analysts predict fragile atmosphere in the Western Balkans. This risks deepening the power struggle in the region between the West, Russia, China and the Middle East.
Timothy Less, who is at the head of the project at the Geopolitical Forum near Darwin College, at Cambridge University, has declared that <x0 regional policy is turbulent”. “Shoh more political unrest in the coming years and transition to authoritarianism because people in particular nervous rural and working classes are urging their leaders to maintain order and security”, Les added.
