Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told the public broadcaster on 22 June that a military general and others within the country's military have orchestrated a tentim-puc in the Amhara region.
Abis said some people were killed and others were injured during the operation.
The United States Embassy said it is aware of reports of gun shooting in Addis Ababa.
