Cakaj accepted the postponement of the decision on negotiations and stressed that it is not encouraging news for Albania. According to him, the Council's decision came after the report The EC was late published.
“Albania cannot set the Council's decision-making agenda, but can meet all technical conditions. Therefore, given the Council's firm pledge, not to discuss whether negotiations will be opened or not but to make a firm decision, Albania remains hopeful for a positive decision in October. Our hope should take the form of positive commitment. Postponing decision-making, however, is not encouraging news for Albania. It has deserved opening negotiations since June of last year. The delay has not been caused by the results... Albania has deserved opening negotiations since last year, but however last year Albania has begun the stage process. Since last year Albania has not lost a moment on its agenda. Today more than ever in this period, our efforts should be intensified to ensure a positive decision in October. Postponing decision-making is neither the cause for prudent political behaviour, but neither the decline in reform energy. Albania must continue on this road with its efforts”, he has said.
