The US Embassy calls on all political leaders, government officials, security agencies and Albanian citizens to make sure that the June 30th elections are held calmly and transparently. We encourage political leaders to reject every and all kinds of violence, or any attempt to prevent the election process or even the right of any citizen to vote. Violence is not a legitimate way of expressing politics. Those involved in acts of violence must be investigated with all the power of the law.
The United States will have teams of observers at polling stations and counting centres throughout Albania. We'll rely on O report SBE/ The ODIHR to assess the voting orderliness.
We encourage political leaders, after Sunday's elections, to turn their attention to strengthening Albanian democratic institutions and implementing the law, including moving ahead with the establishment of a Constitutional Court led by judges who have passed the property. Adopting electoral reforms and implementing justice reform are essential for Albania's European aspirations and for establishing strong democracy that serves all Albanians.
