A 7.4 magnitude quake strikes several islands in New Zealand

Geology experts in the United States also said that the quake struck an area located some 873 miles [873 km] northeast of Nguraku, New Zealand, a city of about 1,400 people. This occurred at a depth of ten miles [10 km].
The earthquake - struck area is called the Kermadec Islands, some 500 miles [800 km] northeast of New Zealand's North Island.
The New Zealand Ministry of Civil Protection and Emergency Management cleared New Zealand of a tsunami threat following the release of a warning on the beach.
The Kermandec Islands, a volcanic archipelad, are prone to earthquakes and thus have no permanent residence.
