The number of cancer cases in the first four months of this year has reached 505, while compared to last year there is a five - percent increase.
Oncology Institute Director Ilir Kurtishi says that the types of cancer that dominate women are breast cancer, while men dominate lung cancer and colon cancer.
By the fourth month, there were 505 new cases of cancer in Kosovo, which dropped by about 3-4 to 5 percent more than last year. It's dominated by breast cancer pathology in women, and in men, lung cancer is dominated, and in second place comes colon cancer and cancer in female body”, says Kurteshi.
However, oncologist Kurteshi says that this number is not a concern, since it is in the Sosa of normal.
“Numr is not growing much, it is not an alarming number and we are hoping that this number even this year will be like the past two years not to exceed over 1600 new cancer cases in Kosovo” annually.
Kurtishi says that for the treatment of such cases, there are sufficient drugs, but he does not deny that sometimes there is also a lack of any medicine needed to cure this pathology.
The last two months in Oncology is much better, sometimes there's a shortage of any of the drugs, but with the basic chemotherapy drugs we're regularly supplied, at the moment we're short of one of these bone problems, we hope this drug will come in these days and we're well covered. The necessary ones are all here”, he says.
For the cure of cancer cases, about 8m euros have been allocated, but in view of numerous cases, this budget turns out to be insufficient.
“As of the budget year-on-year, growth this year is the budget for chemotherapy brought about 8 million, 8 million and two hundred thousand euros, which hopes for these regular supplies with the delivery of competencies from the Health Ministry to the SKKKUKU, supply is expected to be in the second best quarter than it has been in the first six quarters. This budget for basic drugs and what is planned covers exemptions are new drugs, smart drugs and Immmano therapy, which requires additional budget”, he says.
Kurtishi suggests that at the Institute of Oncology, all cases are handled, appealing to all citizens not to seek healing abroad, excluding cases that are not addressed in Kosovo.
“We deal with all cases of solid adult tumors in Kosovo, meaning from the age of 18 to the age of postponed if they are solid tumors of any organ we treat with basic drugs and the necessary medicines along with radiation, for treatment abroad in Kosovo we do not recommend nearly any case except certain forms of radiation that are not done in Kosovo, but we hope that this year will also be”, he says.
Based on the growth of cancer patients and other malignant diseases, director Kurtishi says that Oncology needs new spaces, technology and supplies of all kinds of drugs.
“Klinic of Oncology at the moment is to need new spaces, increase spaces we need supplies with new drugs that we've made recommendations to be open with other countries in the region, and normally we never satisfied we have continued demands that service be improved better quality and proportional to other countries in the region, he said in an interview for EO.
Cancer is a general name of a group of more than 100 diseases. Although there are many types of cancer, they all begin as a result of the abnormal, uncontrolled growth of a single cell.
This serious disease that may appear in various parts of the body is responsible for a high percentage of the deaths that occur in the world.
Every year, millions of new cases are diagnosed with cancer, which means that cancer remains the second with the highest death rate after cardiovascular pathology.
