The decision on the murder of “Murme Bear” in Prizren, taken by the Central Director of the Institute for Forestry and Hunting at the Kosovo Forest Agency, has sparked numerous reactions across social networks. On the basis of this decision, this animal has been declared a temporary damaging animal “, while the decision has been sent to the Prizren Community Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development, granting it authorization for the killing of the mutating “ger” which, according to them, approaches the settlements, writes Periscopi.
And against that decision is university professor Fatgzim Latifi, who has shown Periscope how concrete cases should be handled.
Veterinary medicine professor, who legalises at the Faculty of Agriculture at Pristina University, said that on the basis of current laws in Kosovo, any kind of animal abuse is prohibited.
Whatever the situation, Latifi said that handling such cases should be made by experts and that such a decision cannot be made without finding the cause of the animal's aggressiveness.
I haven't seen what should be exactly the cause that has led to aggression, there are various diseases that are dangerous and transmitted, as are most zoonotic diseases, one of them and a raging disease. The concrete case shows signs of aggression, but in his case, if allegedly missing little ones bring some kind of reckless aggression, but specifically not only the bear but other animals are prohibited by law abuse)”, Latif told Periscope.
“Even the Veterinary Law number 08/2004 and is the law on the well-being of animals which are current in the Republic of Kosovo, which prohibits the slightest mistreatment of animals, leaves it with the murder of”, the professor said.
According to him, the only institution that can find the cause of this damage the father is causing in Prizren's municipality is the Veterina and Food Agency.
“should initially find the cause. And the only one that can be found is the Veterinary and Food Agency that should be announced by the Prizren Veterinary Service and come up with a team that can actually present the cause, is it really a lack of babies or any other disease that causes aggression. The solution can be found, but still the killing is prohibited, the actual laws we need to respect if we want to integrate into Europe”, he said.
While questioning the case from the Food and Veterinary Agency, they have said that in the coming days we will receive answers.
The decision to kill the Murme Bear “” has been rejected by Prizren Mayor Mytaher Haskuka.
Like through a Facebook post, on Sunday it has proposed to the Kosovo Forest Agency to reconsider its decision and be ready to find another solution, as this decision is contrary to the recommendations and attitudes of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning Commission.
“The treatment of the bear's case must be done in another form, not by his own murder”, writes Haskuka.
Among other things, he also pointed to the actions the Prizren municipality has taken regarding the concrete case.
“We like Komuna have had several meetings between the Agriculture Directorate, the Directorate for Emergency and Security, the hunting associations, the Directorate of National Park, the Kosovo Police and wildlife experts for handling this problem and adding security measures to residents of surrounding villages. We have also sought support from the Pristina Bear Forest and other responsible institutions and associations, viewing the change of bear habitat as opportunities. The bears and many other wildlife animals are rich for our wildlife, and they must be protected by the end of”, Haskuka said. / PERISCOP
