The preferential voting system means voters can specify their preference for a candidate on a specific party list.
Strache, 49, was in the last place on the FPO list and it is not clear whether he will take the right place.
Strache resigned on May 18th after an explosive blast was presented by a hidden camera filmed in a luxury villa on the island of Ibiza, in which he apparently offered public contracts in exchange for campaign assistance from a Russian false supporter.
Despite the appeal of his actions “bulled by”, Strache strongly protested his innocence and painted himself as the victim of a dark conspiracy a message echoed to the FPO leadership.
A social media campaign launched by party supporters on the eve of Sunday's parliamentary elections in the EU prompted voters to give Strache a “preference” in order to demonstrate that he still had support between the party base.
While the party in general suffered a decline in its vote at about 17 percent in Sunday's poll, the FPO leadership said it was evidence that they had a solid electoral base and could jump in time for early elections expected in the autumn.
Monday, The FPO joined other opposition parties in supporting a no-confidence motion in centre-right Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, meaning that a temporary government of technocrats will likely lead the country in the snap elections./Periscopi/
