In response, MP Flora Brovina reportedly violated the principle of the dignity of the survivors and violated the Kosovo Constitution.
This photo where a woman is raped in front of her family, except that she is very serious and disturbing, can also affect the emotional and psychological state of the survivor”, their reaction is said.
Their full response:
Kosovo Women Network ( S. The GK has followed with concern today's publication, by MP Flora Brovina, of a photograph that testifies to the violation of a woman by Serb military forces during the war in Kosovo.
We consider that Mrs. Brovina has violated the principle of the dignity of survivors, remembering that through this photograph the body of the survivor of sexual violence has also been discovered during the war in Kosovo. Also, Miss Brovina has violated Article 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, which stipulates that human dignity is inconsistent and is the basis of all basic human rights and freedoms.
This picture of a woman being violated in front of her family, except that she is very serious and disturbing, can also affect the emotional and mental state of the survivor. Furthermore, it can serve as a discouragement for reporting from other survivors of sexual violence and serving as a dangerous precedent for all women and girls who report sexual violence.
The RGK calls on the media to withdraw and do not distribute this photograph, which violates the dignity of the protected victim with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and can only serve as evidence before justice organs, but never circulate in this way in public.
RGK calls on all to be careful, to offer their support to survivors, and to work on preserving their dignity by not retraumatizing them and their families. The RGK requires Kosovo institutions that initiatives they undertake are comprehensive, not excluding anyone, such as the resolution voted on the Kosovo Assembly. For 20 years it has been women's organisations that have provided support to these women and men, while institutions for 17 years have remained silent.
In pronounced before the media, Mrs. Brovina claims these evidence has been presented to justice bodies, but according to her, neither the Special Prosecutor nor EULEX have ever interviewed these victims. If that stands, RGK strongly supports and without reserve any institutional path in seeking justice for survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo, but this action of Mrs. Brovina has not contributed to the achievement of justice, finding the perpetrators of these crimes, or treating the dignified survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo.
RGK through this statement calls for deputies from the Republic of Kosovo's Parliament that, in fulfillment of obligations under their mandate, seek accounts from the courts, both local and international, for the lack of institutional response and the dignified treatment of cases of sexual violations committed during the recent war in Kosovo.
