Miftar Shala had already left Kosovo for Canada during the last war.

He's married, he's got kids, he's working and he's completely involved in Canadian social life.

Shala says she has everything that happened in Kosovo during the war, remembering that she was only 17 years old at the time.

I remember the afternoon when attacks were launched”, he said explaining it was July 1998, when he first faced violence.

I keep having fresh memories of drowning people, I've seen burned houses, bombings, bullets that have flown everywhere. It was unknown where they came from. And you didn't know in which direction you had to escape”, he said in a story about CBC, broadcast Express.

Miftar Shala says it does not last a day without thinking about the horror of the last war.

When you are another country, you continue to have memories of what happened at home, which you believe may be forgotten, but for some reason this never happens”, continues the Shala confession.

Until the confession continues, he says he had never thought he would end up in Canada, since it was a country far from Kosovo.

“Canada was our only option. We've never dreamed of it, that we could end up in Canada, because it was too far from us”, he said.

At the end of the confession, Shala says Canada is already home to him and his family.

“Canada gave me a second chance in life, a better life, you know? I go to bed, and I'm no longer afraid, that someone can kill me, my family is safe and with endless possibilities of”, he relates.

“I can say with full heart, Canada is a home for us, for my family”, ends the Miftar Shala story.
