The “contest, Miss India”, is one that has the opportunity to change people's lives.
But instead of enjoying their success, the participating girls found themselves at the centre of a media storm from a photo column which, according to critics, suggests organisers are obsessed with white skin.
The column published in the newspaper “The Times of India” features 30 pictures of the profile of beautiful girls, followed by the BBC, Periscopi.

But when a Twitter user asked “What's wrong with this picture?
With hair up to the shoulders, brightness, and color of identical skin, some said they all looked alike. Some assumed that these thirty photographs were of one girl.

Critics noted that in fact the issue was that there was a lack of diversity in skin color that highlights India's obsession with being whiter than ordinary Indian women.
The BBC tried to contact the organisers of the race, but received no answer.
Beauty parades became serious business in India since the mid - 1990s. This place has produced some already famous girls who took Miss India's quality.
The organisers' success has focused on finding girls who had whiter skin than the usual dark Indian skin.
Most Indians consider the body's dark skin inferior to white skin, especially in women and girls. /Periscope
