European Parliament Election result, hope for Kosovo European agenda

The results of the European Parliament's elections are seen as hope for this union, but also for the Kosovo agenda. However, it was said that at the second half of the year, we can expect something concrete as far as visa liberalisation is concerned. The outcome of the European Parliament elections shows that the pro-European parties are the winner, and especially the green “ ” that have had the greatest growth. The first Eurosceptics, however, significant growth.

And this result, according to Artan Murati, from the Democratic Institute of Kosovo means optimism for our country's European future.

The Republic of Kosovo could have been optimistic about a slightly better defined European future than it has been so far. The first good news coincides with the fact that there is no major increase in subjects which oppose the European Union and EU enlargement subsequently. A major increase in these subjects would mean policies against the European Union and its expansion either in Parliament or in the Council of Europe, but this was fatally averted. We have seen that there is an increase of liberals and greens, and these two groups have been constantly in favour of European Union enlargement and Western Balkan states”, he told RTV Dukagjin, Artan Murati.

And European integration connoisseur Besnik Vasol says that despite the pro-European parties' winning, he does not hope that by the second half of the year any decision will be made about lifting visas for Kosovo.

For the Western Balkans and Kosovo, I do not expect any major positive radical change, but neither negative as far as further expansion is concerned... The cause of the elections, we have seen a public discurs that was not favourable for Kosovo in terms of visas. Now I expect there will be a drop in tensions and we have positive news, but I don't believe visa liberalisation goes into effect this year. The chances are that the decision will be made this year, while visa-free travel can only be made next year”, Vasloi said, sends out Telegrafi.

Following the EP election results, even European Integration Minister Litera Hoxha, through a Facebook post said the warned growth of the far-right and Euroscepticism is no longer justified for unnecessary delays in decision-making for visa liberalisation.

These elections have marked greater voter exit growth in the past 20 years, reaching over 50% of voter exit.

Also in these elections for the first time, an Albanian deputy living in Sweden, Arba Koklari, has won a seat in the European Parliament.
