Wilson in an interview in Klan Kosova has shown his impressions of meeting with Kosovo leaders.
The “were very good meetings. We are here with an Atlantic Council delegation to continue with American devotion to Kosovo and the Western Balkans. We are part of a broader delegation from Congress to engage more fully in helping the region succeed”.
It was a pleasure to have the opportunity today to meet with President Hashim Thaci, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and Prime Minister Kadri Veselini to stress US support for difficult political decisions made, but also difficult processes and dialogue”.
The threat of our work is that as Kosovo continues to progress in the country, we want to be partners in your aspirations to be part of the transatal community and the European Union”.
Atlantic Council vice president has said dialogue with Serbia is a difficult process.
The “of course, it's a difficult process, but we're on the 20th anniversary of freedom where Kosovars can define their own future”.
Kosovo is still not in the United Nations Organisation (OKB), and there are obstacles between the two countries that are understandable if we remember what happened in the years ão98-99”.
And my job is to help societies overcome these processes for former opponents to become partners. There will be an easy dialogue we will have good and bad in this” process.
He has cited some developments in the Western Balkans that he considers positive.
A major progress has been achieved so far. Montenegro is in NATO and we have the Prespa Agreement between Skopje and Athens, and all these are good developments”.
The most important “is now to work on something that will really be historic between Pristina and Belgrade”.
But is it the right time for a final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia?
This is the time. This is a moment for the region ʹ it is unusual to have all this co-ordination and interest in Washington because there is a lot of competition for attention there, but also in the EU states”.
We have our policy that is multiparty and we have the election cycle”.
He said the process was American, but he warned that this attention might not always be so.
It's an ideal opportunity not to lose. US President Donald Trump has sent letters to Kosovo President [Hashim Thaci] and Serbian President [Aleksandar Vuciqi] to stress what we too can help with these difficult negotiations”.
“You have the steady attention of American politics and we have to maintain it, but I encourage people in the Balkans not to take this for granted”.
