Another group consisting of six women returning from Syria is presented to the Pristina Foundation Court. In the hearing, the prosecution has called for the deployment of house arrest measures against them because of allegedly committing criminal work, joining or participating in the military or foreign police, in paramilitary or pre-copial foreign formations, in group organisation or individually outside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
Kimete Krasniqi, lawyer of one of the women suspected of this criminal act, said after the hearing she has rejected the prosecution's request for the deployment of the house arrest measure.
There is nothing to protect me that is proven to have committed this crime. My client has been deceived by her new husband, who was killed after three months of stay there”, Krasniqi said.
The first group consisting of ten women appeared before the Pristina Foundation Court on Tuesday. After the session ended, Pristina's Constitutional Court announced it has decided regarding the Special Prosecutor's request for the appointment of house arrest against 10 women indicted, with initials, V.B., F.D., F.L., N.H., A.Z., V.K., H.K., L.L., S.S. and M.A. Because of criminal acts of unification or participation in the military or foreign police, in paramilitary or pre-police foreign formations, group organisation or individually outside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
The ten women were assigned house arrest measures in length of 1 month each, ranging from 23.04,2019 to 23.05,2019. The court said there is doubt based that the defendants from 2014 to 20,04.2019 have been in the conflict zone in Syria and Iraq.
Special Prosecutor Syla Hoxha confirmed on Tuesday for Radio Free Europe that investigations are under way against 32 women returning from Syria under suspicion of criminal work, joining or participating in the military or foreign police, in foreign paramilitary or paramilitary formations outside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
Last week, 110 Kosovars returned from Syria to Kosovo, mainly women and children, but four fighters who were arrested shortly after arriving in Kosovo.
Returners were held for 72 hours at the Centre for Foreigners in the village of Vranidol on the outskirts of Pristina and were later allowed to return to their homes.
