Kosovo covered by trash: Up to 220kg produces every citizen in the country

While the world is taking urgent steps to stop plastic pollution, which is causing tremendous environmental damage, Kosovo still has basic problems, such as general waste management.

It is estimated that some 300 million tons of plastic is produced in the world each year and that a plastic bottle will be dissolved from the ground will take over 400 years.

According to the latest report by the Kosovo Statistics Agency on municipal waste, it is estimated that per capita, an average of 228kg of waste a year, KTV reports.

If this is multiplied by the population, about 409 tonnes of waste are produced in Kosovo annually, and many are not treated at all.

Numerous wastes in Kosovo are seen at every corner, including holiday facilities such as Lake Badovci.

As the number of visitors grows, so do the remains in one of the most attractive countries in the Pristina region.

The Lake of Badovci is also frequented by fishermen who are disappointed that the lake is not being maintained.

Citizens blame each other for not taking away the garbage and taking care of public spaces.

From the organisation “Gren Art Center”, which has been working on waste management in Kosovo for four years, say it is important that citizens become aware of even recycling waste.

Green Art Center was part of the cleaning stake last year in co-operation with Lets Dottt Kosova and the Ministry of Environment.

The campaign had lasted three months and 803 illegal warehouses and plenty of waste in public spaces across Kosovo, but this had not solved the problem since Government set out as an idea to clean Kosovo up.
