A tiny fraction of the nearly 850m euros donated so far comes from a very modest source.
A little girl from Britain sent 3.38 euros to Fundation du Patrimoine, one of four organisations commissioned by the French government to collect donations for the reconstruction of the cathedral.
Dear citizens of France and Paris, my name is Caitlyn, and I am 9 years old, I live in England,” wrote Caitlin Handley in a letter to the foundation. I heard about Notre Dame's fire on the radio and I wanted to help, I know it's not much, but everything helps. ”
Simon Handley, Caitlyn's father, told CNN that his daughter was very upset after finding out how old the cathedral was.
She felt bad so she thought she had to do something. He couldn't donate hundreds or thousands of euros, but gave as much as he could,” said Simon.
