The Kosovar Centre for the rehabilitation of Torture Survivors (QKRMT), after reviewing the UN Secretary General's report on Sex Violence in Conflicts, has expressed its deepest concern about leaving Kosovo out of this report.
The QKRMT had reacted last year, on April 12th 2018, after publishing the UN Secretary General for Sex Violence Crimes Report in Conflicts.
QKMT, as a non-governmental organisation that works two decades with survivors of sexual violence during the war to alleviate their trauma and contribute to their rights, expresses its deepest concern for putting out the Kosovo situation report on crimes of sexual violence.
Taking into account the recent progress of Kosovo state institutions in verifying and documenting the victims of rape, the KRC strongly believes data representation in this report concerning sex violence crimes in Kosovo would contribute to a broader understanding of the situation of survivors in the region.
A particular influence would have on fighting prejudice and stigmatisation surrounding this social category.
KRCT has been invited by the United Nations Special Representative for Sex Violence in Conflicts with the Denis Mukwege Foundation and the Nadia Initiative at a consultative meeting organised by the Roosevelt House Human Rights Programme, Hunter College (New York, January 2019).
At this meeting Feride Rushiti (KRMT Executive Director) has been invited to offer her 20-year expertise and experience on reparations in relation to victims of wartime sex violence survivors.
Also, QKRMT in January 2019, at the request of Special Rapporteur for the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and nonrepetitiation guarantees, has given its contributions to the questionnaire on national reparation programmes.
