The World Bank's office in Kosovo today introduced the newest number of World Bank Economic Rule Report for the Western Balkans, where Marco Mantovanelli, World Bank director in Pristina, said that for the countries of the region, Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, has positive news as this region is developing in recent years.
Mantovanelli said there is positive economic growth, including Kosovo with 4.2%, while the situation will continue with stability.
However, job creation has slowed down, no new jobs. In Kosovo, there is a need for economic growth that creates jobs”, Mantovanelli said, adding that this economic growth has been driven by public investments.
According to the BB report, over 17,000 jobs were lost in 2018, while the unemployment rate has increased over the past year.
Mantovanelli has called for increased efficiency in education, health and social protection.
He also talked about the “New Kosovo” project, where he said the possibility of financing coal-based projects has been made impossible by the World Bank. So the World Bank, according to him, is aimed at supporting renewable energy.
Meanwhile, foreign investments have seen decline, always according to the World Bank's latest report.
