Arber Ademi from DUI said the elections passed into a calm, correct and democratic atmosphere in line with European standards.
According to him, today's elections were also a fulfillment of the condition for getting the date for starting EU membership negotiations.
In the race for Gjorge Ivanov's successor are three candidates; Stevo Pendarovski, nominated by the Social Democrat League and 31 other parties, including Ali Ahmeti's Democratic Union for Integration; Gordana Silanovska-Davidkova of the Macedonian opposition led by VMRO DPMNE and Blerim Reka, the candidate proposed by the two Albanian opposition parties, the Alliance for Albanians and the Besa Movement.
Currently, according to preliminary results, LSDM candidate Stevo Pendarovski led 41.77 per cent of the vote before the VMRO candidate. Gordana Silianovska Davkova's DPMNE with 38.69%. Albanian candidate Blerim Reka has 15.65 per cent.
The president can be elected in the first round, if any candidate gets over 50 percent of the total number of votes, but to date this has never happened, so the run-off for those who will result from the two main contestants is scheduled to be held on May 5th. /AlsatM/
