At the Institute of Food Technology (FTU) of the University “Isa Boletini” in Mitrovica, the Centre of Experts will open, aimed at treating the water downloaded from the milk industry, as well as increasing the quality of milk products.
To that end, an agreement has been signed between the Kosovo Milkies Association (SHQK), FTU University “YU NICO”, created in the Netherlands, who are partners of this project.
FTU Dean Milaim Sadiku said the idea is for this Center of Experts to serve as a regional centre for both Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
“given the development of the milk industry and the need for treatment of downloaded waters, as well as increased milk quality, this centre will be extremely important for this sector”, Sadiku said.
According to him, the first objective of the Experts Centre is to facilitate the ShQC to become more stable and competitive.
“Fokus will be on challenges related to sewage treatment, improved production processes and energy efficiency”, he said.
While as second targets, according to dean Sadiku, it is for the Ecprastic Centre to create a co-operation link between the Kosovo and European milk sector through interconnection with organisations from EU states.
In this context, he also cited participation in EU and local projects, as well as development of expertise and knowledge through exchanges with the EU.
On the other hand, Gani Durmishaj, chairman of the SHEC, said that in Kosovo there is an increase in the lack of high-quality milk, as well as its products, then there is insufficient production of quality milk, increased competition by producers abroad, and needs to lower the pressure of environmental impact.
“All these factors make the expert centre a point for the milk industry in Kosovo, and possibly even in the region”, Durmishaj stressed.
Otherwise, among the main activities planned to be carried out at the Centre of Experts are, offering technical assistance to the CEC and milk sources in their problems with sewage treatment, milk processing and energy efficiency, assisting the CQ in problems regarding the environment with the Government of Kosovo, providing an adequate infrastructure, equipment and knowledge of conducting research to execute waste samples and laboratory tests.
