Trump's threat to impose tariffs on vehicles imported by the European Union has raised tensions.
The US Department of Commerce last month handed over to the president a report stressing that the importation of vehicles could affect US national security, a definition Trump can use to impose customs duties without breaking the World Trade Organization's rules.
