Chief State Prosecutor Alexander Lumezi's office has reacted after statements issued the previous day by Vetevendosje Movement MP Albulen Haxhiu.
Wednesday's statements by Kosovo Parliamentary MP Albulen Haxhiu on carrying the positions of Chief State Prosecutor Alexander Lumezi, this office estimates inaccurate and the same are aimed at violating the integrity of the chief state prosecutor.
Here's the full response:
” Respecting the right to freedom of expression of each individual, including the deputies of the Kosovo Assembly, as one of the most fundamental rights of a democratic society, this right must serve to tell the truth every time, and should not be misused to disinform the opinion.
Statements by the Kosovo Parliament MP, Mrs. Albulen Haxhiu, given yesterday's day on March 18, 2019, at a press conference on carrying state chief prosecutor Alexander Lumezi's positions, saying among other things that” the bearer of justice institutions is not implementing the law”, referring to the exercise of public functions of the State Chief, we consider these are unstable, inaccurate statements and the same are aimed at violating the integrity of the chief state's chief K.
We remind Kosovo Parliament MP Albulen Haxhiu, but also the public, the legal opinion of the Anti-Corruption Agency (AKK), granted in 09.07.2018 on the request of Chief State Prosecutor Alexander Lumezi, for the exercise of public functions, where it says that; “there is no conflict of interest in the exercise of the head of State and Functions chief; Kosovo Prosecutorial Council member member member/ Head of the Justice Academy Steering Council, Board of Financial Intelligence Steering Board member, Kosovo Academy of Public Security Board member, and no conflict in the interest of being Chairman of the Commission for Proving of Jurisprudence”.
Therefore, the Anti-Corruption Agency has considered that all additional commitments by the chief state prosecutor are not in opposition to the Law to prevent conflict of interest.
The exercise of these functions by the chief state prosecutor is in line with laws that have been passed by Kosovo's Parliament deputies, and if you think that the state chief prosecutor should not exercise these functions, then you as deputy should change these laws. As a Kosovo Parliament deputy, you should be a good example of law enforcement and should read well the decisions of institutions and other law enforcement agencies, and in no way should you be issued in such statements, aimed at undermining the image of the State Prosecutor's Institute.
The State Prosecutor is the constitutional institution, unique and built on constitutional and legal principles as independent and impartial. I have been working on these principles as chief State Prosecutor since I took office. Therefore, all attempts by anyone, including political ones to pressure any kind of State Prosecutor's work are unacceptable and I guarantee that these efforts will fail”.
