Henrik Austad said he was sending traffic to Nokia 7 Plus when he found out the device was sending out data that weren't encrypted, including SIM folder number, serial phone number and its location.
The server the data was sent to is below the “vnet. cn“, owned by the Chinese state company China Telecom, broadcasts Kosovas Prees.
Finland's ombudsman for data protection, Rayo Aarnio, said the investigation would prove whether there is a breach of personal information and if an excuse can be given.
An initial deep investigation testified that the delivery of data was certainly dedicated to the Chinese version Nokia 7 Plus and not to the global version.
The HMD Global Company confirmed to the newspaper “Helsingin Sanomat” that data collection had occurred because of the error in the “encryption of the package”, which was accidentally included in the firmware of some of the phones.
According to the company, only a number of Nokia 7 Plus equipment owns this package and that the problem will be solved through software updates.
Investigations over the case are continuing and they could last several weeks, according to Finnish media.
