Kosovo diplomacy, in addition to successive failures in membership in international organisations and lack of recognition, is also facing a lack of a large number of ambassadors in several European decision-making centres, as well as regional ones. Kosovo currently does not have ambassadors in Albania, in Great Britain, in Saudi Arabia, Austria, Australia and Belgrade. The Kosovo Embassy in London has also been without an ambassador for months, just as it has remained in Sweden.
Foreign Affairs Ministry officials for “Zin” have said that Kosovo currently does not have powerful ambassadors only in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, while saying they have launched ambassador appointment procedures in other states. Representatives from the opposition and civil society have told the paper that the lack of ambassadors in major European centres is happening because of the accountability of Kosovo government and president.
Meanwhile, they have stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not violating the Law for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Service of the Republic of Kosovo, which requires at least 50% of those appointed as head of missions to be career ambassadors, while the rest are political appointed.
