Through a statement it has confirmed that the death toll is 49 persons, 41 of whom were killed at the mosque in Al Noor, and 7 at Masjid Mosque. Another changed his life in the hospital.
28-year-old Brenton Tarrant has been charged with murder and will appear at the Christchurch District Court tomorrow morning, while police are also looking for two others. According to them, another detainee has nothing to do with this attack.
Police say it is still early to understand the motives that led to this attack, while investigations will continue.
They said there would be an increase in the number of officers across the country to make sure all events warned for the weekend are held.
