The richest man in the world, the founder of Amazon. com, Jeff Bezos, has accused the owner of national Enquirer of trying to blackmail him on embarrassing photos.
Bezos said that the American Media Inc (AMI) magazine's mother company wanted him to issue an investigation into how he received his private messages.
Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, said last month they were getting a divorce.
Their announcement came shortly before the National Enquirer was conducting reports of the titan's extramarital technology relationship.
AMI has not yet responded to the BBC's request for comments.
In a shocking post Thursday, Bezos posted an email he said had been sent to his mediators by AMI representatives, threatening to publish the private “photo” of Bezo and his girlfriend, former television president Lauren Sanchez.
The billionaire, who also owns the newspaper “Peashington Post”, said the AMI had wanted him to do a “false public statement” that National Enquirer@ coverage for him and for his lady was not politically motivated.
According to e-mails published by Bezos on his blog, an AMI lawyer proposed on Wednesday that photos would not be published in exchange for a public statement “claiming Bezos and his team have no facts” to suspect such a motive.
At the beginning of the blog post, Bezos mentions AMI's connections with President Donald Trump
