They are expected to discuss the road to the deregulation of the Korean Peninsula at the two-day summit held in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Before meeting with Kim, Trump met with Vietnamese Prime Minister and other politicians.
Trump has praised the summit's host country, on a Twitter post, saying “Vietname is advancing as few countries in the world. North Korea can be the same and very soon if it is deregulated”.
The meeting in Hanoi is expected to pave the way for fulfilling the commitments, which were held at the summit last year in Singapore. At last year's meeting, both leaders have agreed to work towards delucalisation, but few progress has been seen in the process.
However, Trump has said before Wednesday's meeting, that he is not putting pressure on North Korea to give up arms.
I don't want to pressure anybody. I just don't want tests. As long as there are no tests, we are happy”, he said.
Washington has said earlier that North Korea must give up its nuclear weapons unilaterally if it wants to get rid of sanctions. / TCh/
