NATO's peacekeeping force in Kosovo is determined to preserve the safe environment despite potential political developments and tensions, which are currently threatened to be driven by escalation of language and political rhetoric. So said KFOR Commander, Italian Major General Laurenzo D'Addario, in an interview for “Kahen Ditore”.
He considers that the current moment provides opportunities for a political solution, but insists it is the work of politicians, while the military have a job of analyzing any scenarios so that they are not taken by surprise, writes “Koha Ditore” today.
KD: It has been more than two months now that you are here, and each KFOR commander has had his perception of what his mission will be during the mandate. I think each of them even had their own appointment, their motto, of the mission they wanted to fulfill during their stay here. What's yours?
D'Addario: That's right. Thank you. First of all, I mean, yeah, I'm here for two and a half months and it's been really quiet since I got back, since I was here in 1999 and in 2004.
There are these two experiences, which have given me a taste of two different situations when I thought KFOR was proven relevant in different ways. But another thing I would like to say is that I really enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of the people and even the institutions, I could say.
You're right, each commander picks a motor and when I come and I choose: “united in commitment”, as my motto.
