There is a tradition that sees women give male chocolate on Valentine's Day. There are two types of chocolate, “Giri-choco”, and “Honmei-choco”.
Giri-choco aims to be for close male friends, colleagues, bosses and friends. “Giri” means charge, so this Geary-choco has no romance involved. On the other hand, Honmei-choco is given a boyfriend, somewhere close to a man's relationship.

What is most unique in Japan is that there is “White Day”, which takes place on March 14th, exactly one month after Valentine's Day. On the White Day are men who give home gifts to women who gave them chocolate on Valentine's Day. Usually the color of chocolate is white because of the day's name.
