The United States Embassy strongly condemns the violence and destruction that occurred during today's protests in Tirana.
We support citizens' right to protest peacefully, but damage to public property and violence are not acceptable.
We encourage all parties to show better restraint and restore peace.
We call on all political parties to denounce these acts and take all necessary steps to ensure that the situation becomes peaceful and constructive.
EU Response
The European Union delegation and the Embassy of Member States in Tirana call on all sides to show immediate restraint.
The right of citizens to express themselves through peaceful protest is an essential value of a modern European democracy.
However, damage to public property and the use of violence are not acceptable.
We call on all parties to do their best to avoid further violence and disorder.
OSCE Response
The presence of the OSCE calls for restraint from any further violence against the prime minister and any kind of public or private property.
The escalation of street violence today constitutes a violation of the principles of peaceful democratic protest. Instigators and perpetrators of violence bear responsibility for today's incidents.
We will continue to support all acts of democratic and peaceful protest, as part of our firm support for democracy in Albania.
The response of Great Britain is to support all those from all sides who call for peaceful demonstrations. This is a time to respect the rule of law.
