A Vietnam doctor saved the life of a man suffering from alcohol poisoning by injecting a total of 15 beers into his blood. Here's how it's possible. Ngoyen Van Nath (48) fell unconscious and ended up in the hospital on December 25th.
Doctors found that the metallol level (the most dangerous form of alcohol) in its blood was 1,000 times higher than the average value. When he arrived at the hospital, medical personnel led by Dr. Lee Van Lam immediately introduced him to therapy, which included three cans of beer.
In just 24 hours, doctors gave a total of 15 cans of beer, or almost one beer every hour, not counting at night. This affected his organism by slowing down the liver and leading to a lack of metallol absorption, allowing one to regain consciousness. There are two types of alcohol, ethanol, and methanol that are similar to chemical compounds, and both are toxic to the human organism. However, methanol does not encourage the body favorably, so it is far more dangerous to the health. That's why people get drunk with ethanol, not methanol, which is in gasoline, antifreeze, color, cleaning products, dishwashing fluids, etc.
Under normal circumstances, when we drink ethanol - the enzymes in our body called dehydrogenese alcohol - break ethanol substances and thus produce acetaldehyde. It is then metabolized into a product called acetas, which is then divided into water and carbon dioxide before being thrown out of the body. On the other hand, the methanol, which can be fatal even if it enters much smaller doses of ethanol, is broken by the same enzyme in a very different way. It turns into an extremely toxic substance, which then produces formaldehyde, or toxic acid. These two components are very dangerous to their health and can be deadly.
Methanol poisoning causes permanent blindness, breakdown of the nervous system, coma, and death. This would also be the case with this patient if the dose of ethanol were not injected, which prevented formaldehyde from becoming formalized acid, which allowed doctors to prepare it for dyalis and to remove alcohol from his body.
