Macedonia's next “president may be Talat Xhaferi”, so declared recently former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who has been in Hungary since November, where he is standing as a political asylumr.
During an interview given for the Informox portal.mk, in Budapest former Macedonian Prime Minister Gruevski has said he thinks Macedonia's next president, following the upcoming presidential election to be held in the spring, at least for a time may be Talat Xhaferi.
According to Gruevski, Talat Xhaferi will have the task of signing everything that has not been signed so far, and then, he says, whatever happens is not important.
I think the next president, at least for a while, will be Talat Xhaferi. It is difficult to complete all procedures between May 5th and 12th”, Gruevski has said in an interview for Informex.mk.
While explaining the procedure for electing the president, Gruevski said Gjorge Ivanov's mandate ends on 12 May, meaning that if all procedures are not completed by this date there will be a president.
From my experience, it is very likely that at least a few days or perhaps a week, Talat Xhaferi as speaker of the Parliament will carry out the role of the country's president”, Gruevski has indicated.
From November 11th, 2018, Gruevski is in Hungary with asylums where he fled Macedonia, following a two-year prison sentence for abuse of office. Meanwhile, Macedonia's Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi has signed the act of announcing the upcoming presidential elections, where according to the country's Constitution and the initial deadlines, the first round of presidential elections is expected to be held on April 21st, while the second on May 5th.
