Election Commission officials in Ukraine said that 44 candidates have registered to compete in the March presidential elections.
Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko will compete for his second five-year mandate and has pledged the country's membership in the European Union and NATO.
Recent polls have shown that Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and comedian Voldymyr Zelensky are Porosenko's closest rivals in the 31 March elections.
Poroshenko, 53, one of the richest persons in Ukraine, took power in pro-European mass protests, which affected the departure of President Viktor Yanukovcych, close to Russia.
It has been a voice of integration with the West and criticism against Russia, especially after the crime siege and continuing war with pro-Russian separatists.
