Moreover, they often have nothing to do with your age. In some people, they can happen at high school, and maybe earlier.
However, they have to do with aging, but as dermatologist Melisa Plyyang explains, it's actually about aging melanocites in hair glands, respectively, with the aging of cells responsible for pigment production.
“They stop producing melanin, and the result is gray hair, which eventually becomes white”, Plyyang explains, adding that most people by the age of 50 have half gray hair.
But did you know that (early) showing gray hair can show serious health problems?
Concretically, a study published at the Cardiac Society Conference in India found that men under 40 who were prematurely thick had five times as likely to develop coronary diseases. In other words, premature appearance of gray hair may be related to heart problems.
Furthermore, research shows that aging melanocites can be a result of a biological process that can harm cells and healthy tissues. That's why you're advised to ask your doctor if you're starting to have gray hair before you're 35.
