On December 27th, Turkey plans to present the prototype of the first local electric car.
“We say next Friday at Gebze”, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated, answering journalists' questions in Malaysia, where he travelled to attend a summit of Muslim countries.
Immediately after the president's announcement, Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank distributed pictures of the covered automobile on Twitter.
In one of the photos posted by Varank, there are officials of the Automobile Initiative Group (TOGG), which is the auto designer. The minister described this development as a revolutionary step for the country and its development efforts.
“Presenting this machine produced here represents an important achievement for us”, it is expressed. Prototype is an electric SUV, one of five different models that will be produced thanks to this joint initiative.
This, according to Varank, will make Turkey “the only country in the region able to produce an electric car”.
