Scientists claim that schoolchildren with a high body mass index have performed worse tests.
Scans also showed that the outer layer of their brain was thinner, especially in an area linked to memory and decision making.
But it is not clear whether a weak diet has damaged brain development or if an undeveloped brain caused excessive food.
Experts say both can interact, or this bond can simply be a coincidence. Dr Jennifer Laurent, from the University of Vermont, U.S.A., analyzed the scans and results of tests of 3,190 children aged nine and ten.
She said: “These findings suggest that BMI is linked to changes in the development of the prefrontal framework and reduced executive function”.
“Deciphers in work memory may contribute to poor dietary decisions”.
Once established, these associations can be mutually strengthened and contribute to ongoing health issues that continue to grow”. /Time News.tv/
