Not only is it fun to watch a play or watch your favorite artist show! It's also educational! But did you know that all of this helps you to live longer?
A recent study by College University in London found that people who often participate in cultural activities had a 31% lower death risk than those who saw no cultural activity.
Those who went to cinema, theatre or museum once or twice a year had a 14% lower risk of dying early than others.
More than six thousand and 700 adults over 50 years of age in England participated in the study, but researchers note that further evidence is needed to understand exactly how theatre, opera, or exhibitions can prevent an early death.
The report showed that those most likely to take advantage of the arts involvement were those who were less likely to do so: “40% of lung patients, depression or loneliness reported that they were never involved in the arts, despite the strong evidence of possible benefits”.
Now it has to be worked to ensure that the health benefits of these activities are attainable, so they have to practice as much as possible.
Scientists acknowledged that potential external factors such as mental and physical health, conciliative differences, mobility and social engagement can also affect results.
