The Institute will require its new members to register the date of birth, as it plans to present more content that fits specific age groups.
This social photo sharing network now requires users to be at least 13 years old to create an account, broadcast news.net.
The search for birthday would help the company in advertising for specific products dedicated to non-children.
This information will help Instagram stop running the games of fate, alcohol and birth control.
However, Instagram said advertising was not behind the change and that it would encourage new users to adjust their privacy values in the coming weeks.
“Searching this information will help prevent children from entering the Instagram, will help keep young people safer and allow generally richer content that has been adapted to specific age groups,” the company said in its blog.
