The devastating 26 November earthquake left dire consequences in the counties of Durres, Tirana and Lezha, while this disaster also found a reflection in world media.
In addition to their lost lives, which added to the plague for family members, another plan now that is bothering them is that of shelter.
The intense seismic shocks last Tuesday were plagued by pain in many families, where part of them were forced to move ahead of time to the last residence of family and relatives who remained dead under the ruins.
German television “ARD” has long written about this great tragedy in Albania, while stopping at the other challenging element of government, the cost of construction.
According to the ARD, reconstruction of the destroyed areas could reach 1 billion euros, much huge for Albania's current capacity.
The officialfras are not yet available, but reconstruction of areas affected by the earthquake will be not only a human and technical challenge but also costly. Experts say reconstruction could cost up to one billion euros. Many people and companies in Albania and abroad have already donated money. So far, about 15m euros have been collected”, writes the ARD.
German television further highlights the National Reconstruction Committee, which has been established by the government to collect, coordinate and manage the collected money, with the aim of coping with the situation. This media writes that corruption in Albania remains a major problem, and transparency with collected funds should be shown, but also for the expenses to be carried out on the ground.
A special commission must channel this money and ensure transparency, because corruption is a major problem in Albania. The government has announced plans to build new neighbourhoods in Tirana, Durres and Kurbin. In the short term, up to 5,000 apartments will be built, in the long term plan, even 10,000”, it is further said in writing. / BE/
