Egypt's Liberal Party Chairman Explains Case with journalist Denis Galushi

Egyptian Liberal Party Chairman Veton Berisha has provided a clarification about the indictment he filed against journalist Denis Galushi from RTK, concerning the article published days ago in the media.

Berisha said the move has been taken in the interest of clarifying and informing broad opinion.

“It informs you that protecting the interests of the community and Egyptian identity through legal ways has nothing to do with any kind of threat and public lynching to Mr. Galushi and the work of journalists, and as such, our legal actions do not constitute a violation of free speech”, Berisha has said.

In quality of the Chairman of Political Subject, the Egyptian Liberal Party (PLE), I Veton Berisha, not willing to influence the process that we have already launched, in terms of criminal speculation introduced on December 9th 2019 at the Founding Prosecutor in Pristina against Mr. Dennis Galushi because of the alleged criminal offense: Promoting division and patience, by Article 141 of the Kosovo Criminal Code.

But in the interest of clarifying and informing broad opinion, it informs you that protecting community interests and Egyptian identity through legal ways has nothing to do with any kind of threat and public lynching to Mr. Galushi and the work of journalists, and as such, our legal actions do not constitute a violation of free speech.

I, as representative of the Egyptian community, understand and respect the mission of the RTK Workers' Union and the Association of Kosovo Journalists (AGK), but just as we have mentioned in criminal speculation introduced in Pristina Constitution, Freedom of Expression, Article 40, par.2, of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo <x1m> to be restricted by law in cases where such is necessary for preventing and provoking violence and hostility on grounds of national, ethnic, ethnic, ethnic or (4) religious hatred.

Moreover, comparison “Rom+ Ashkali+ Egypt= ROM“is unacceptable, offensive, divisive, constitutes denial of national identity, even though the highest judicial act in Kosovo, the Constitution, defines it as a divided community along with other communities. Therefore, we as an Egyptian community feel offended by the equality of three communities in a single community, as in concrete case, similar to how other ethnicities might feel if they were equal to this formula.

I've always had and continue to have excellent reports with the media, and many times together we've managed to choose positively different cases for the Egyptian community, so I assure you that Mr. Galushi is not aimed at limiting freedom of expression, but is aimed at protecting the Egyptian community from discrimination.

We urge that the case not in question give any other meaning to peace, but to enable the justice organs to make merit decisions, while PLE expresses determination that, in effect, we will use all available legal means.

Finally, we guarantee that our institutional action by never hindering anyone in his work contributes greatly to the development of democracy, to the respect of each identity in Kosovo, and to the development of a multiethnic society as guaranteed by the Constitution and laws in power in Kosovo.
