Whenever you are in a situation that causes an extreme emotional reaction, give yourself 24 hours before making your thoughts, thoughts, and feelings known. When under pressure, your nervous system is set in motion and your body is flooded with adrenaline, cortisol and other chemicals that prevent you from acting rationally. Mental people know that even those who usually remain calm struggle to control their emotions when provoked. They know that time is a valuable tool in dealing with problems.
By taking time to process your emotions and seeing the whole picture, you are prevented from rushing into disappointment, anger, or grief. Any attraction for a sharp response will disappear within hours, and then you can think carefully about how you should continue to behave. This approach to conflict and resolution of problems can do much to protect your most important relations from unnecessary conflicts.
So the next time someone pisses you off, just walk away from their company intelligently, and think about the problem for 24 hours. Emotions will be relaxed, and you will reach a rational response to any problem.
