Former England star and Manchester City, Trevor Sinclair, has apologized for calling Liverpool <x0lylyps looking for food in the garbage container”
After City's victory over Burnley narrowing its supremacy with Liverpool to only eight points, Sinclair wrote in his Twitter account: “Lypa of the trash cans, we're coming for you”.
The term “bin dippers” is a street language used by rival fans against each other and makes reference to the poorer urban areas, especially during the time of Margaret Thattcher government in the 1980s. Many consider it a form of class prejudice, writes Independent, Periscope.
Despite the massive clash among fans that caused with his insulting words, Sinclair said: “This is sensitive... calm down, you're still 8 points ahead of”.
However, Sinclair has already erased his tweet and apologized, citing his own origin from the working class.
For every fan who was offended by what I wrote last night, I apologize. I didn't have that purpose. I'm the guy from the working class. Excuse me.” /Periscope
