Today, the US-Adriatic Charter Partnership Commission <x0) is held in Tirana. Member states and observers attended the meeting.
This meeting was chaired by Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaj in the quality of the Adriatic Charter's leading country this year.
In his address, Minister Cakaj stressed the necessity of further strengthening regional co-operation in meeting current security challenges to the region, as well as noted Albania's contribution to meeting them.
The minister also stressed the necessity of expanding the Charter with other countries of the region like Kosovo, arguing it would contribute not only to further strengthening regional co-operation to meet challenges, but also to its full Euro-Atlantic integration. According to the minister, the US-Adriatic Charter has played an important role in helping our countries' Euro-Atlantic integration, turning the region into a security producer.
For their part, the participating countries, as they praised Albania's focus on leading the US-Adriatic Charter this year, supported the necessity of intensifying regional co-operation to cope more effectively with current challenges and threats to regional and wider security.
The meeting served the illustration of Albanian Headship activities that, in line with the focus set during the chairmanship of this initiative, focused on strengthening regional co-operation between member countries and observers of A-5, in the function of meeting common security challenges, and primarily violent extremism and terrorism.
Also, the meeting paid attention to efforts for the region's Atlantic European integration, as well as the necessity of expanding the US-Adriatic Charter with Kosovo.
This meeting also marked the end of the Albanian leadership of the US-Adriatic Charter, after which Bosnia and Herzegovina officially assumes the chairmanship.
