Miss America's crown in 2020 has taken a biochemist from Virginia.
24-year-old Camille Schrier has broken the myths and stereotypes of miss only declared beautiful, but unwise women.
In addition to the crown, Schrier won a $50,000 scholarship.
After receiving the award, Schrier said he hoped to restore stereotypes about what it means to be Miss America in 2020”.
Schrier has a degree in science and is studying doctorate at the University of Commonwealth of Virginia.
Since 2018, the contest has tried to bring about some changes to improve his image, not focusing solely on the criteria for the evaluation of competitors.
Organisers say the changes have encouraged more young women to participate.
