President Thaci and President Meta, along with Chief Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi and Gramoz Ruci, as the UN representative, Sam Bronback, today at the “Fe conference as a peace instrument” in Tirana, have spoken of the importance of strengthening peace through interreligious harmony.
At this conference, President Thaci has said that tolerance among us, like when it comes to our faith in God, as in our belief in man, is worth without which there can be no peace in a human society.
This is President Thaci's full speech at the “Feja conference as a peace instrument” in Tirana:
honoured ones,
It is a notion that is essential when dealing with the phenomena of religion and peace, which is a common value.
When this notion is lacking, all of it is disputed in a human society and the very phenomena of religion and peace and the connection between them are essentially at risk.
In that case, anything can be contested, turned back, overturned.
First of all, it loses security and stability, while without it there is no human freedom, there is no organization of human society, and everything is questioned.
The notion and phenomenon as common value to religion and peace is tolerance.
The tolerance among us, like when it comes to our faith in God, as in our faith in man, is worth without which there can be no peace in a human society.
As we all know that we have gathered in Tirana today, in recent years in human history almost all over the world have been marked by an explosion of inadequacy, of intolerance of all possible political and religious forms, as well as a great lack of willingness to understand each other, regardless of national, religious, political, racial and acceptance, that only at first glance is a stranger.
We are all in the presence of the same Lord.
Such are the same when there is peace and understanding among us.
On the contrary, when there is no political and religious tolerance, human tolerance would say, as well as when the hatred of all kinds prevails, peace is threatened, the misuse of religion with the most perverse political interpretations in the service of day-to-day political purposes, and the whole world is threatened with a big mess, with unpredictable consequences for all of us.
Those who do not think that all people are equal and equal cannot be true believers, and they are great opponents of peace. These endanger peace in the name of a religion that has nothing in common with the sacred books and the true faith in God.
We are thus experiencing difficult, challenging times, yet challenging, and none of us have the right to remain silent, not to display their own thoughts about all this political and historical confusion, not to seek the recovery of widespread tolerance as the fundamental value of religion and peace.
On the other hand, in that legacy from the past of each of our peoples, there can be found examples that apply more today than before to triumph over hatred and patience, how we should rebuild tolerance and understanding among ourselves.
The Albanian nation in this respect has set a very positive, very good and very stable example to this day.
Albanians are of the Islamic and Christian faith, are Muslim, Catholic, and Orthodox, surely there are also atheists. But this whole amount of identity in our ratio to God has been co-existed in tolerance and understanding, which is traditional values among us.
These traditional values should be preserved and enriched daily.
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
Let me talk a little bit about Kosovo's experience with religion and peace, as well as some of the achievements we've made. The first achievement is that we have not allowed religion to be implemented in the Kosovo war for freedom and independence. Thus, the Kosovo Liberation Army has allowed no religious ideology to become part of its war.
So we have continued the tradition of Kosovo, where we have never had interreligious conflict.
Even during the war years, the Kosovo Liberation Army has not allowed any religious or cult object of any religion to be affected.
The second, Kosovo has included religion, religious leaders, in efforts to build peace and consensus among people since the end of the war.
Among my first initiatives as president of the Republic of Kosovo has been the establishment of the Commission for Truth and Recipience.
Among the first and foremost supporters of this initiative have been the religious leaders in Kosovo, all religious affiliations.
This support continues, as the role of religious communities remains essential for interethnic reconciliation, for strengthening peace and increasing tolerance in Kosovo.
Third, religious leaders in Kosovo have built bridges of communication and co-operation among them.
In addition to meeting at parties, they get together at regular meetings where they talk about challenges and seek ways to deepen their cooperation.
So they send the message of tolerance and coexistence and establish religion in the service of peace in Kosovo.
We have also faced the challenge of elements of extremism and radicalism in Kosovo. But as a society, as a country, we reacted immediately.
We have built legislation that prohibits not only the spread of religious hatred but also the participation in wars outside Kosovo.
Measures have been taken against those who have stirred up hatred but who have also participated in foreign wars.
Kosovo institutions are now working with those who have gone to these wars, but have repented and sought to return.
Together with the religious community, we are working on the return and resocialisation of returnees.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As I noted earlier, even in the past today, keeping alive the spirit of tolerance and understanding is a challenge and will remain in the future.
To strengthen these values, to strengthen the relationship between religion and peace, will be discussed at this conference.
Here we have no choice or alternative.
This is not about pluralism, democracy, free-mindedness.
All of us who have some responsibility, in politics, in religion, in public life, should always have a clear opinion and an order that cannot be compromised. The tolerance between us is value without which we cannot build society that is at peace with ourselves and with God.
Thank you.
